During your first appointment, Naturopathic Doctor, Vicki Comeau, will go through a medical intake questionnaire that you will fill out ahead of time and bring with you.  Numerous questions about many different topics related to you, your life, your past experiences and exposures will be asked to you which will allow Dr. Comeau, Naturopathic Doctor to formulate a better idea of what may be contributing to if not causing your specific health problem.   By understanding your specific health concerns and past experiences and symptoms as a Naturopathic Doctor, Vicki Comeau, is able to direct you as to what next steps you may need to consider taking.  Just as your family medical doctor may request further blood tests or other lab tests to be done prior to suggesting treatment options, so too may Dr. Comeau, ND.

It is good standard medical practice to obtain as much concrete information from you, such as from blood work or other types of laboratory tests, before recommending treatment, but is not always necessary.  Like a Medical Doctor, a Naturopathic Doctor can obtain the same types of important information from tests that may assist them in providing you the best medical treatment and care, but a Naturopath may interpret the results of those tests slightly different.   Naturopathic  Doctor, Vicki Comeau, ND regularly requests copies of any standard medical test results you have from your family MD such as blood work, biopsies, ultra sounds, colonoscopy, x-rays and MRIs, but she often recommends the use of other types of laboratory tests including, saliva hormonal testing, fecal metal, urinalysis and hair testing and food sensitivity testing via blood or electro dermal stress testing methods. These tests provide great amounts of information often over looked by standard medical testing and can even give clues about the functioning of biochemical pathways in your body.  Naturopathic Doctors are trained to look at all aspects of you as a person and not just the disease.   The Naturopathic Doctor’s focus is to treat the cause and not just your symptoms.

Another avenue for obtaining more information from you is through performing a physical examination.  Dr. Comeau, ND does refer her patients back to their Medical doctors for any internal examination procedures such as prostate and gynaecological examinations.  Dr. Comeau, ND believes that it is important to have a Medical doctor and Naturopathic doctor who are willing to work with one another in order to achieve the best for your health care needs.

An additional assessment tool used by Dr. Vicki Comeau, ND is called an electro dermal stress test which is based on galvanic skin response testing.  This is done with every new patient and although it is not used as a diagnostic tool it does provide a great depth of information for guiding the direction of treatment needed.

Disease is a process of daily ongoing imbalance that can and usually does take months to years to manifest into actual physical symptoms, but once your intake and testing is complete you should be able to start making the necessary changes to help restore your body back to a healthier state.
